The Pink Flamingos are incredible because of our team spirit. We really love being with each other and we really love to play basketball. And we really love to push those little young women around. That's not completely true, yesterday's team pushed us around like little rag dolls. I had to even tell one girl "oh no you don't" when she tried to steal the ball from me.
I've never really played much in my life, but I've got a huge competitive streak in me and found myself on the gym floor more than once yesterday. Which, by the way, isn't highly recommended. I'm really sore today.
Here are some pictures from our opening banquet at the Cheesecake Factory and photos from our first game.
But first, my baller face.
I should probably go on to explain what the term baller means and how it is used so that my mother doesn't get overly concerned. (Love you, mom!) The online slang dictionary was quite useful on this one:
"someone who is really good at a ball game, especially basketball"
example: I'm the best baller this town has ever seen.
note: Always pronounced "balla." The trailing "r" is never pronounced.
Ok, now onto some pictures of the team.
Nancy and Alex in a heated discussion about the team name.
Amber and I. I just love this southern gal!
Esther, Katie, Thaidra and Amber with our pink sweatband headbands.

Fancy Nancy and I in our headbands!
Piiiiink Flamingos!
The key? What does that mean...
Ref explaining the 3-second rule about being in the key to Alex. One of the funniest moments ever.
The serious ballers!
Our fearless leader, Sunni!
Kati and I running our little hearts out.
THE score. We won!
Carbo-load at Katie's house before game #2.
Team pic after our 2nd game. We lost by 1 point! 15-14.
Question: Do you love my floating head?! What the heck happened to my neck?
We've got about 8 more games ahead of us. We're moving to 2-a-days and adding strength training in as recommended by our Bishop. We take our Ward Ball seriously out here in the East!
I'm glad you guys are having so much fun! I would think about joining in...except for the fact that basketballs have a serious affinity for my head. No joke; I get pretty nervous when I'm in the cultural hall and someone starts bouncing a ball. I shall have to come and watch though...and sit as far away from the court as possible.
ReplyDeleteRemember how I'm not on the team but I am featured in a picture?
ReplyDeleteI like it. As much as I like your balla face.
Thanks for explaining "baller" (balla-)...I would have worried and worried and worried. LOL.
ReplyDeleteYay, this is so great!I had a dream about the team/playing basketball, this is serious business! ;)
